The Big Mouth is one of the many types of Biophage that Jacob Lee encounters through out the game. It is first seen in the Cinematic Trailer of The Callisto Protocol. This enemy is first encountered in the chapter Aftermath.

Overview[]

Section
This section requires expansion. You can help The Callisto Protocol Wiki by expanding it.

This taller monster appears to be made out of two people fused together. They spit projectiles at the player, which appear to either be some form of acid or smaller versions of the larvae mentioned earlier. These projectiles can also damage the other Biophage, however, so you can use them strategically. They largely don’t pose a threat from afar, instead being more annoying than anything. If you want them to stop spitting at you, consider shooting off their head. It won’t kill it, but it will make it stop spitting and instead come in for some melee attacks. It’s a bit bigger than the standard zombie, so be wary of its long arms and tentacles that will try to pull Jacob in.

Combat Strategy[]

  • Big Mouths cannot be stealth-killed.
  • Their main attack pattern is spitting projectiles. If you manage to shoot their head off, they will be forced to use melee attacks.
  • After blowing their head off, their melee attacks only utilize a 1-swipe combo, allowing you to dodge and then immediately follow up with a strike of your own.
  • Getting the upgrade for the baton to break the arms of a blocking enemy is useful for this enemy type, as they have a high chance to try and block your melee swings.
  • Jacob can also pick up these enemies with the Gravity Restraint Projector and toss them into nearby environmental hazards for quick kills.
  • If the Big Mouth mutates, switch over to a high damaging weapon like the Skunk Gun or Riot Gun to kill it at a much faster rate.

Death Scenes[]

  • The Big Mouth grabs Jacob by the shoulders. He tries to escape but the Big Mouth got a good GRP on him and clamps its jaws down on his head, thrashing him around like an animal then finally biting off half of his skull. However in the extended trailer, when the Big Mouth bites him, his muffled screams are heard.
  • The Big Mouth will grab Jacob and initiate a QTE where it attacks him with its infection tentacles. Should Jacob fail, the tentacles will burrow into his eyes, nose and mouth, causing him to fall to the ground and choke to death. Jacob is then turned into a Grunt offscreen.
  • The Big Mouth will strangle Jacob with its tentacles, then pummel him to the floor until more tentacles surround his head. Jacob's head gets squeezed by the tentacles before it explodes entirely.
  • The Big Mouth will first knock Jacob to the ground. Jacob will then try to get back on his feet but the Big Mouth roars and puts it's jaws around Jacob. He will then scream in agony until his upper head is finally crushed.

Execution Animations[]

If Jacob manages to deal enough damage to a Big Mouth, special execution animations will play. Keep in mind two of these are DLC-only.

  • Jacob will first sweep the Big Mouth's legs to knock it to the ground. It will then attempt to get back on it's feet but Jacob then puts his baton between it's jaws and crushes it's upper heads.
  • Like last execution animation, Jacob sweeps the Big Mouth's legs and will try to get back into battle. This time, Jacob will choke the Biophage through forcefully shoving his stun baton down the Big Mouth's throat. Finally, as Jacob gets his baton back the Big Mouth gets decapitated, killing it.
  • After a powerful hit from the baton, the Big Mouth finally gets on it's knees. Jacob deactivates his stun baton and then hits the Biophage with it several times. As a final blow, the baton gets reactivated and Jacob charges his attack, giving out an overpowering swing which ensures the Big Mouth's demise.

Trivia[]

  • The Big Mouth's appearance could've been inspired by a Split Face creature from "The Thing."
  • The Big Mouth is the first Biophage to be introduced ever since the game was announced.
  • The Big Mouth is Glen Schofield’s favorite Biophage.
